Signs & Symptoms......to watch for.....
There are so many little things that can be affected by a Chiari Malformation and a Syrinx. It's important to note that some of the "symptoms" are momentary. For example: I have days where my vision is blurry and seems out of focus but it is temporary. Visual disturbances can occur before a headache begins. Headaches are a big part of my life. I have three types of headaches that affect me. I have included those descriptions as to help parents identify what type their child may be experiencing.
Irritability
Sensitive to loud noises
Sensitive to bright lights
Holding back of head, neck, and can include the top of the head
Not eating
Vision impairment
Hearing impairment
Pain when hyper-extending neck
Possible sleep apnea
Loss of consciousness when falling or hitting the head
Memory Impairment ranging from mild to severe - forgetfulness
Impairment of thought process - knowing what you want to say but unable to do so

Complaints of Headaches
Migraine Headaches - this type of headache can be very painful. pain is usually behind one eye but can be located behind both eyes , sensitive to lights and loud noises. pain can be located at the back of the head too. some of the other symptoms include nausea, vomiting and chills.

Positional Headaches - is just that positional. from bending over to pick something up to turning your neck can cause this type of headache. I believe that it is related to the crowding at the back of the head.

Intra-cranial headaches - it is best described as a fullness inside the skull and may include a tight feeling and it can be very painful. even a tablespoon of extra water can cause an increase in symptoms and these types of headaches.
There is still so much I want to add to these pages, if you have anything to add, send them to me and I will go from there.
